Nacra Inter 20 – One of the Most Powerful Production Beach Cats Ever Built
The Nacra Inter 20 is a 20-foot high-performance racing catamaran designed by Morrelli & Melvin and built by Performance Catamarans in California between 1998 and 2001. Originally developed with the emerging Formula 20 concept in mind, the Inter 20 quickly gained a reputation as one of the most powerful production beach cats of its era.
With its long waterline, high-volume hulls, twin trapeze setup, and huge asymmetric spinnaker, the Inter 20 delivers serious performance both upwind and downwind. The boat rewards skilled sailors who can keep it flat and fast, offering incredible reaching speed and explosive acceleration under the kite.
Although the Formula 20 rule never became a dominant international class, the Inter 20 developed strong fleets in the United States, where its North American Championship still regularly attracts competitive fleets. The boat also found its way to Europe and Australia, where small numbers are still sailed today.
If you enjoy high-performance beach cat sailing, Formula-style multihulls, or classic big-kite catamarans, the Nacra Inter 20 remains one of the most exciting designs from the late-1990s multihull boom.
