The Hobie 17 is one of the most radical single-handed beach catamarans ever built. Designed in 1985 with integrated hiking wings, daggerboards, and a powerful fully battened mainsail, it became known as a true heavy-air weapon.
Built for serious racing, not cruising — the Hobie 17 rewards technique and punishes mistakes. Around 5,000 were built, and the class remains active today, especially in the USA.
