Next Level Racing: Better Results — Explained

Next Level Racing – Chapter 1: Preparation & Race Readiness

Racing is the fastest way to improve your sailing — even if you don’t plan to race regularly.

In this first chapter of Next Level Racing, Joe from Joyrider TV goes deep into everything that happens before you ever reach the start line — the preparation, organisation, and decision-making that separates sailors at the front of the fleet from everyone else.

This module goes beyond “the rest of the race”. It covers complete race strategy, for both course racing and long-distance racing, at any level — from club racing to major regattas.

By racing alongside more experienced sailors, you gain something training alone can’t provide:

real benchmarks

real decision pressure

and real insight into how the best sailors prepare and think

In this chapter, you’ll learn:

Why racing accelerates your overall sailing ability

How preparation before a regatta directly affects results

What the sailors at the front of the fleet do differently

How to organise yourself and your boat for race days

How better preparation leads to better decisions on the racecourse

This chapter sets the foundation for the rest of the module, which goes on to cover:

Upwind and downwind strategy and tactics

Making consistent decisions under pressure

Mark roundings and how to avoid rules trouble

Using the rules to your advantage

Reducing mistakes and steadily moving up the fleet

Next Level Racing is designed to help you:

improve your race results

sail in cleaner air

make smarter strategic choices

and finish where your sailing deserves

This is Module 13 of the Joyrider Classroom series.
Each module contains at least six in-depth chapters, with each chapter running 10 minutes or more.
