Global Speed Stick Competition Update

Global Speed Stick Sailing Competition Update

Get ready for a thrilling update on the 2023 Global Speed Stick Sailing Competition! As we dive into this episode, we’ll be revealing the top contenders, their impressive speeds, and the epic locations where they’ve been conquering the waves.

Best Places to Sail Fast

Looking for the ultimate sailing destination? Look no further than Vasiliki on the Greek island of Lefkada – it’s undoubtedly one of the best spots in the world for high-speed sailing. Don’t forget to check out other exceptional locations like Grand Cayman, Lake Weyba in Queensland, Australia, and various places in Germany, South Africa, Canada, and more!

Best GPS Devices for Sailing

If you’re wondering which GPS device to use for tracking your sailing speed, look no further. For iOS users, the Water Speed app is an absolute must. It not only provides your current speed but also gives you a wealth of statistics from your entire sailing session. What’s more? The official speed tracker of Joy Rider TV, it’s highly recommended!

Don’t own an iPhone? No worries! You can use a dry bag to house your phone and run apps like Strava, which is free and compatible with the Speed Stick. So, let’s take a look at some impressive speeds from sailors worldwide and see how they achieved them.

Top 27 Sailors on the Speed Stick Leaderboard

Without further ado, here are the top 27 sailors who have impressed us all with their incredible speeds:

  • Tobias – LARS – Germany, 14.3 knots on a Laser
  • Marty & Lars – Switzerland, 14.5 knots on a Hobie 18
  • Ivan – Cayman Islands, 15.3 knots on a Hobie Wave
  • Pierre & Lynn – Canada, 15.6 knots on a Hobie Tiger
  • Brendan & Brian – Grand Cayman, 16 knots on a Hobie Getaway
  • Sam & Meg – USA, 16.1 knots on a Hobie 18 Magnum
  • Meg & Sam – Nampa, Idaho, USA, 16.4 knots on a Hobie 18 Magnum (Solo)
  • Robert Evans – Michigan, USA, 16.5 knots on a Hobie 16
  • This list continues with more impressive sailors and their speeds on different boats like the Nacra Inter 18, D-Cat, Prindle 19, and more from various locations worldwide.

How to Make Sure Your Speed is Recorded

To make sure your speed gets recorded on the Speed Stick, remember these important points:

    • You can have as many entries as you like.
    • Each time should be on a different boat.
    • If sailing solo, it’s your entry. With a crew, it’s the steersperson’s entry.

A quick note: Hobie 16 can either have one sailor (solo) or two sailors with a crew, so choose your category wisely!

    Podium Winners

In this exciting update, let’s not forget the podium winners:

    1. Jimmy Carpenter – Australia – Lake Weyba, 22.8 knots on a Hobie 16 (Solo)
    2. Max & Finn – Germany – Fehmarn, 22.3 knots on a Tornado
    3. Scott Tomer – USA – Ocean Springs, Mississippi – 22.3 knots on a Prindle 182 Special Franky Kitty (Solo)

Congratulations to these incredible sailors for achieving top speeds and setting new standards in the Global Speed Stick Sailing Competition! But remember, this is just the beginning.

If you haven’t yet joined the race, it’s not too late. The Speed Stick competition is open for anyone willing to join and sail their best. Just remember: always keep safety at the forefront of your mind while sailing!

Join us as we continue to follow more exciting updates on this thrilling Global Speed Stick Sailing Competition! Don’t forget to check out previous episodes for additional highlights, tips, and more about sailing worldwide.

Yes that's right, there's a competition going on right now. It's running throughout the year at every sailing venue on the planet.
I'm talking about the Speed Stick competition from Joyrider TV.

It's just about sailing fast.

Here's how it works:
When you go sailing, take a GPS device with you whether it's a watch, dedicated GPS like the Velocitek, an action-cam with in built GPS, or your phone running a GPS app such as Strava (set to windsurf to get the speed in knots)
For IOS devices - use Waterspeed - now the official speed tracker of Joyrider TV!

When you've finished your session, check the GPS and send the details of your top speed to [email protected]
Along with some info:
Helm + Crew names
Type of boat
Location
Evidence - a screen shot or photo of your GPS

Plus you can add a photo of the sailors with the boat or action shot or shot video clip which will be included in the next Speed Stick Update Video on Joyrider TV.
