Welcome to Joyrider Classroom Module 14: Filming the Action. In this chapter I explain exactly what we’ll cover in the full module, from capturing great sailing footage on the water to producing a finished video ready to publish online.
We start with how to choose the right camera for catamaran sailing, then move into the settings that make the biggest difference (resolution, frame rate, stabilisation and lens options).
From there we cover practical camera mounting ideas on the boat, including angles that work for showing speed, handling, and what’s happening on the trampoline.
The second half of the module takes you through my complete workflow: syncing clips, editing 360 camera footage, creating and overlaying telemetry (speed data/GPS), and editing the final video in DaVinci Resolve.
We also cover exporting versions for both long-form YouTube videos and short-form vertical edits for YouTube Shorts and social media.
Finally, we introduce Joyrider Worldwide, a community YouTube channel concept where sailors can contribute their finished videos to reach a wider audience and build the global beach cat community.
