Catamaran Racing Complete Lesson

Introduction

If you’re looking to delve into catamaran racing, or are just beginning your sailing journey, this lesson is the perfect starting point. It covers all the essentials you need to know before heading out onto the race course.

–>

The Essentials for Racing

The most important thing while we’re on the race course is that we avoid collisions at all costs. Two vital tools for this are spatial awareness and thinking ahead.

–>

Spatial Awareness and Thinking Ahead

Spatial awareness means knowing the location of all other boats around you on the race course. Think ahead to possible future situations, rather than waiting until the last minute to make a move.

–>

Rules and Fair Play in Sailing Boat Racing

Sailing boat racing is self-refereed for most of the time, especially at the amateur level. Everyone on the race course must follow the rules, so cheating isn’t tolerated.

–>

Exonerating Yourself

If a rule is infringed, there’s a way to exonerate yourself – in catamaran racing, it means doing a 360-degree turn if the infraction occurs.

–>

Port and Starboard Tacks

If two boats are on collision courses, they need to know their rights. The boat on starboard tack has the right of way over those on port tack.

Strong wind RUDDERLESS: Is it possible on a Hobie 16?
I knew that this was going to be hard to do, if even possible. Certainly much easier on boats with either a daggerboard or on boats that have a very large jib (like the Hobie 18 or 20) Support Joyrider TV ⛵️Channel Membership https://www.youtube.co...
