Down East Circle Part 4 – Chapter 5

Sailing from Popes Harbour to Halifax Nova Scotia.
Arriving in Halifax from the remote anchorages of Nova Scotia’s Eastern Shore was a bit of a shock, their annual Busker Fest was in full swing and our tie up at the foot of Sackville Street was surrounded by stages presenting everything from bag pipers to fire jugglers.
2)
It’s a great city to walk in, the historic centre is just across Lower Water Street and up the hill a few blocks is the citadel, the best place for a city panorama. With limited time it was hard to know where to go first, we decided on the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, they have a wonderful collection that features Maud Lewis’s folk art, including her tiny painted cottage re-asembled inside the gallery.
3)
Only a block from where we’d tied up is the Maratime Museum of the Atlantic, were we spent almost the entire day pouring over the fascinating array of information and artifacts that include objects from dozens of the 5000 recorded shipwrecks on Nova Scotia’s shores.
4)
We ended each of our busy days with excellent meals in resturants both on the waterfront and up the hill into the old city where we found a superb spot that featured local seafood accompanyed by a jazz pianist.
