Caribou Harbour to Ballantyne’s Cove, Haddock Harbour, Isle Madame & Canso.
Canso is a small, coastal fishing town on the Eastern Shore of Nova Scotia with a population of about 1000. It is one of the oldest fishing ports in the Maritimes, having been founded in early 1600 hundreds. The area’s rich history is well presented by the towns Whitman House Museum that details much about the glory days of the fishing industry. In the early 1990’s the Atlantic Ground Fishery saw sharp declines which placed Canso in a very precarious economic state, most of the fish processing plants have since closed.
