This was NOT the Caribbean we expected.
Sailing south through the Eastern Caribbean brought us to Guadeloupe—and what we found completely surprised us.
After leaving St. Kitts and Nevis and making a quick stop in Montserrat, we sailed Isla into Deshaies, Guadeloupe, ready to get off the boat and explore.
What followed was one of our favorite adventures yet: lush rainforests, waterfalls, the Botanical Garden of Deshaies, Guadeloupe Zoo, winding island roads, Les Saintes, Fort Napoléon, and an incredible pod of dolphins that joined Isla along the way.
Just when it was time to say goodbye to Guadeloupe and set sail for Dominica… things aboard Isla got interesting again. Our main halyard wrapped around one of the spreaders, leaving Ashton and Kasey to figure out how to untangle the mess while underway.
Because apparently, it wouldn't be a Finding Our Isla adventure if everything went according to plan.
We’re the Gardner family, a family of six who traded ordinary life for an adventure aboard our sailing catamaran, Isla. We’re sailing the Caribbean with our kids, homeschooling along the way, learning as we go, and sharing the good, the hard, and everything in between.
Next stop: Dominica. 🇩🇲
