Fantome Island in the Palm Group of Islands on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is yet another beautiful, tropical wonderland cooled by the trade winds and lapped by crystal clear waters. However, it has a very dark past and was the scene of great misery for much of the 20th century as a place of banishment for the sufferers of leprosy and venereal disease. In this video we visit the island, explore the remains of the leper colony and try to imagine the life of the residents.
