Once we’d recovered from celebrating Kristi’s birthday, we set out on an adventure across the barren hills of Gran Canaria, Spain.

Sailing over from Morocco, we’d arrived in Gran Canaria a few days before. Leaving S/V Cheeky Monkey tied to the dock in Las Palmas along with all the other catamarans preparing for the Atlantic crossing, we drove up the east coast of the island in search of some land-based fun and adventure.
Between sailing to the island, preparing for an ocean crossing and recovering for a huge birthday party, it was great to take a break and hit the hills!
Horse-riding experience was clearly on show – by some. For others, hanging on was an achievement!
For our next installment, we run through some last-minute preparations for sailing across the Atlantic and push off for the journey.

Sailing Adventure: Chase the Story is Tasha Hacker's YouTube Channel, which started as a chronicle of her RTW sailing adventures with her husband on board their FP Helia 44 catamaran, Cheeky Monkey. Within 2 years of buying the new boat, the couple got divorced, Tasha got her Captain's license and US Sailing Instructor's certification and started teaching women to sail in the Caribbean. When pandemic hit, Tasha went back to Lake Tahoe, CA and during lockdown started teaching Women's Sailing courses on Lake Tahoe, CA. She's been trying to figure out what to do next and how to keep empowering more women on boats, teaching others to sail.
