So we’re enjoying our morning rituals and working away editing videos, when over the radio comes a cry for help for a boat that has run aground on the reef!
The message is hard to distinguish at first, and then other cruisers start coming on to relay the information… sounds like a boat has somehow went straight up on the reef in Grenada between Hog Island Anchorage and Secret Harbour where we are anchored.. the request goes out for any dinghies that can render immediate assistance, especially larger ones, so this is one time we know our Yamaha 60hp will come in very helpful!
I tell Shascha to grab the dinghy tow line, which is the longest line we have that is also 3-strand so has lots of flex in it, I grab the keys and untie the dinghy and off we go!
It doesn’t take long to see the sailboat that has run aground, and it is right in the middle of the reef which is going to make it very difficult to reach without putting our own dinghy at risk… so the challenges begin and with all the other cruisers coming out to assist, we manage to put a good end to a day for one very distraught sailor…
Thanks to all the sailors that came out to help that day, and especially to Roger from a neighbouring boat who hopped in our dinghy on our way to render assistance with lines… very much appreciated Roger!
