Modernizing our 37 Year Old Sailboat’s Electronics! / Installing Wind Instruments with the mast up 🤨

In this episode we are modernizing our nav station electronics as well as installing a new chart plotter/wind instruments while the mast is up. How many things do you think we dropped while working 55 feet up in the air 😂?!

We shipped a new B&G Zeus 3 chart plotter down from the States. We are installing this chart plotter at the helm. Luckily we are replacing our old chart plotter which is the same brand and has the same connection already present at the helm.

We are moving our old semi functional chart plotter down to the Nav Desk. In order for the chart plotter to be useful we make a number of connections; NMEA 2000, ethernet, as well power.

We’ve also opted to replace our wind instrument. We purchased a new wireless wind sensor from B&G. Working 55ft up in the air makes this a tricky install.

With a bunch of projects behind us it’s time to have some fun. An old friend, @UntideSailing has just pulled into the anchorage and we dinghy over for a fun burrito dinner. It’s a neat story as we last saw our friend Max in the Azores way back in 2018.

Finally it is time to finish off our nav station upgrade. We install a Victron Cerbo Gx. This device connects and summarizes the data for all our solar controllers, battery monitor, as well as inverter/charger onto one color display.
