The Matriarch of The Maine Coast was a special video for us to make. Jan and Hank Taft set out in the early 1980s to create one of the most beloved cruising guides ever published. In its seventh edition with more than 50,000 copies in print, A CRUISING GUIDE TO THE MAINE COAST is a sailor's bible, both for active sailors and armchair sailors alike. Packed with fascinating details and imperative navigational information, there are very few boats that cruise the thousands of miles of Maine coastline that don't have at least one copy aboard (we have 2). Four years in the making, without the comforts and ease of modern navigation aides or word processors, Hank and Jan carefully and passionately crafted a cruising guide like none other. Maine has more than 3,000 miles of coastline, from inlets to islands, and they navigated and documented it all. Part visual aide and part narrative, the book never ceases to entertain, assist, and enlighten. A CRUISING GUIDE TO THE MAINE COAST firmly established itself as the "Bible" of the Maine coast. In 1994, Curtis Rindlaub took the helm as author, updating all the charts and expanding coverage to include the Bay of Fundy and the Saint John River. So, sit back, relax, and learn about how this book came to fruition and how over the course of 4 years, they created an enduring guide that has been in print continuously since 1988.
