Living Aboard in the Exotic Islands
For the past six years, Beau and Brandy have embarked on an incredible journey sailing and living full-time aboard their sailboat Sersa. They’ve learned to adapt swiftly to new destinations and the ever-changing mood of the sea. Each day presents fresh adventures and unexpected moments teaching them to embrace change and live in the present.Sailing here in the Bahamas offers its own unique challenges alongside its breathtaking beauty, with limited resources requiring a minimalistic lifestyle more than other islands they have visited. But it is this very aspect that adds to the charm of living aboard Sersa in paradise.
Beau and Brandy’s day begins with a challenge, as they navigate through a rocky anchorage at Black Point. With limited resources and needing to catch the high tide out for navigation through Bahamas’ cuts, it becomes their first task of the day. Their minimalist approach is not only about lifestyle but also necessity due to the limited supplies available.
Embarking on an adventure, they sail towards Block Point aiming for a broad reach. The sailing experience here in the Bahamas is what makes it their favorite sailing grounds. It’s the calm seas, beautiful blue waters, and crystal clear surroundings that make every day a new challenge.
Black Point offers them not just scenic beauty but also a sense of community among cruisers. With limited grocery supplies, they plan their meals accordingly. A visit to the local grocery store unveils challenges like higher costs for essential items such as eggs at $7, and toilet paper at $3.
Their trip to get gas for their dingy from Staniel Cay reflects another aspect of life in remote locations. It’s not just about sailing, but also ensuring their boat runs smoothly and they have access to supplies like toilet paper or eggs which are non-negotiable.
The larger settlement of Staniel Key, although crowded, provides a wider range of amenities. A visit to Wicked Wanda’s floating hair salon for Brandy shows how the local community warmly welcomes them into their lifestyle. They try to blend in with the locals, taking part in activities like getting a haircut, despite having a washer and dryer on board.
Evening falls as they catch dinner by anchoring out. They share their excitement about catching trigger fish amidst potential threats of playing hide and seek with sharks. A hearty meal of fried fish awaits them after a day full of challenges.
Their life aboard Sersa in the Bahamas is not just about sailing or adventure; it’s a journey to embrace change and live in the present. Each challenge faced, whether it’s navigating through a rocky anchorage or running out of groceries, brings them closer to understanding and enjoying the unique lifestyle that defines this unforgettable sailing adventure.
