Acorn to Arabella – Journey of a Wooden Boat – Episode 90: Backhoes, Easy Bake Ovens and Bilge Bands

There is always a ton of stuff going on at the same time here. And although some of it is behind the scenes action and not necessarily boatbuilding per se, there is a lot of the project spent working on some really interesting random things! Figuring out how to make tools to make the build easier is one of the fun ones. We deal with one of these in this episode to help us with the graving pieces.
We also get a thumb attached to the backhoe, glue up another plank, talk about the SAILCARGO project and finally, mark for the bilge bands. This last part will give a little understanding to something that will be a fun little challenge down the road and which we are excited to get into. But for now, enjoy this little episode packed full of many different tasks!

As mentioned, we are setting up our merchandise for the holidays and hoping to get the last few items up in the next couple of days. Some will be in time for the holidays and some will have to be New Year’s gifts 😉
We now have long sleeve shirts on offering, including safety orange ones for all those guys needing long sleeves and high visibility at work! (we listened!) Coming soon and hopefully in time will be some Acorn to Arabella pins which would make perfect stocking stuffers! Beanies (winter hats) are coming soon. And our favorite but which might be a bit late are some really great insulated travel mugs with our logo on them.
All items will be available on our site under merchandise ( linked here: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/merchandise )
The deadline for orders to be able to be shipped in time in the continental U.S. is December 4th (sorry to all international folks… we didn’t make it in time!)
Thank you all for the support and we wish you all Happy Holidays!

Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38′ wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin’s Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel’s gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they’ve built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva.
