We created a new bowsprit. What could go wrong? Episode 48 #catamaranrefit
Our very first multi-day passage had a very unfortunate outcome...we lost out bowsprit. The genneker halyard ruptured and dropped the sail into the water while we were moving ~12 knots. While we were trying to get the sail back on deck, the forces were just too great and the bowsprit broke right off the crossbeam. In the spirit of the $6,000,000 man, we designed and built a new one...bigger and better than it was before. The process was long and involved several people, but the result is fantastic. In this episode we detail the work we did to prepare the aluminum, and the problems that blocked our progress.
