We departed the Turks and Caicos depressed with our inability to complete our journey to Europe and with a half-hearted plan to sail to Puerto Rico for provisions. Less than six hours off the Caicos bank, unexpectedly rough seas, higher than expected winds and a near knock down had us making a hard right turn. After a quick check of the longer range forecast in the southern Caribbean, we opted to join the always downwind sailing club and head for the calmer waters of Bocas del Toro. This episode documents an unexpected seven day passage and Kevin explains the night that radically changed our course. Follow along as we make our way downwind 1,000 nautical miles past Cuba, Haiti and Jamaica and return to where this Caribbean season began, Panama. Bocas del Toro is our destination, and we finally get a long anticipated easy downwind passage.
