Being on the outer fringes of the main Whitsunday island group, Waite Bay is somewhere we only get to about once a year.
It's apparently a bit of a feeder reef for the area, so it was really sad to see how much it suffered from the effects of Cyclone Debbie in 2017.
Happily, on our most recent visit in the September-October school holidays, it was a different story.
This place is alive!
The reef is recovering and the bay is teeming with turtles, blacktips and all sorts of tropical fish.
The first half of this video shows the hike up the hill and the second is about the underwater landscape.
At the end, Julian even jumps on our friend Mike's paddle board.
Not bad for a first-timer!!
