I thought this would be a straightforward job… swap out the old freshwater pump and fit a new one.
It wasn’t.
The new pump looked identical, but the quick-fit connectors were just slightly different — enough that nothing would fit. So instead of a simple replacement, this turned into something else ...
Ferrocement boats might look solid, but they fail from the inside out. Once cracks form, seawater corrodes the internal structure until the boat essentially destroys itself. Cheap doesn’t mean worth it.

We almost sunk the boat!!!
We recently found ourselves back onboard and sailing through the Bahamas with our baby after we sold the boat.
What started as a beautiful day out here in the bahamas turned into complete panic when we almost crashed straight into a sunken ship hiding just below the surfa...
Welcome back to Finding Our Isla.
In this episode, we continue settling into life in Le Marin while waiting out strong winds and tackling a long list of boat repairs and projects.
From fixing our steering cable and unclogging the toilet… to provisioning the boat, homeschooling, laundry days, and ex...
Since you’re leaning into the "Sailing Truth Show" angle, the description needs to feel less like a "vlog" and more like a masterclass. You want to hook the casual viewer who is afraid of getting sick, while establishing yourself as the authority who has written the book on the s...
In this episode, we finally cast off from Cartagena and set sail on an overnight passage to Formentera! The wind and sailing conditions were excellent, but Jude wasn’t feeling her best, so our early morning arrival was a huge relief.
Once anchored, we deployed our brand-new smart GPS Anchor Buoy Mor...
We explore the Treasure Cay Bahamas Marina which was abandoned after Hurricane Dorian hit it as a CAT5 and then the country shut down shortly after due to COVID. Leaving no owners and no one left to rebuild. It is still there. Waiting on someone to come along and take on this monumental project. We ...

No name on the boat is already a warning—but it gets worse. This DIY hard dodger made from vehicle windshields isn’t just ugly, it’s unsafe and not built for the sea. Some modifications should never be done.

But the Atlantic has other plans. Strong weather systems force the crew to stay docked in Bermuda while they wait for a safe weat...
In our opinion, Trinidad's natural beauty is massively under rated! When it comes to Caribbean jungle and waterfalls, and in fact jungle landscapes in general, it's world class.
When our new crew member Lukasz arrived in Trinidad to join us living aboard our sailboat, we knew we wanted to...

Performance cruising catamarans like the Outremer, Balance, and HH are often seen as the gold standard for fast offshore sailing catamarans - but with price tags running well into the millions of euros, it raises the question… do you really need to spend that much money to get a catamaran that’s gen...
A fresh paint job and custom cockpit can hide serious issues. Old screwed-down teak decks often leak, and the real story is inside - water damage to hulls and bulkheads that can destroy value. Always look beyond the surface.

Hurricane-damaged boats can become financial black holes. The cost of materials like teak is driven by shipping and taxes—so repairs are often far cheaper in countries where the wood is sourced. Location matters more than most buyers realize.
