This is a quite different passage for the crew of Gargoyle as rather than wait for favorable winds we must go during a lull. Getting East in the Caribbean this early in the year is difficult due to the trade winds as well as storms spinning off the northeast coast of the United States. We have a lull in these winds, but it is only 4 days long, followed by an intense Northeaster with winds to 35 knots and 9’ seas so there will be no lollygagging around this trip. This means 80% of the trip will be done under power with just a few periods with enough wind for us to sail and still be anchored before the front reaches us. So, we have topped off the diesel tanks and are heading out on a mission. As the song Sister Christian goes, we are motoring!
