11 years ago, we sailed the Inside Passage aboard a very bare boned Catalina 27 from Port Hardy, all the way up to Juneau and back. I posted a video of this trip in the past, but decided to re-edit it to improve the audio and flow with the (relatively) retro footage I captured.

In this episode, we continue on from Bishop Bay on the central coast of British Columbia up to Petersburg, Alaska. We see lots of whales, enjoy a ton of sunny weather, and battle to windward against the NW winds that come with clear weather in this part of the world. Part 2 ends in Wrangle Narrows, and with a montage of what is coming up in part 3!

If you missed part 1, you can find it here: https://youtu.be/5Roiw5iEtRA

I hope you enjoy this re-edit! This time, the music is from the free YouTube audio library, which did not exist when I first made a video of this trip a decade ago!

How To Replace Rigging & Emergency OFFSHORE Repairs

Here is a quick video showing how we dealt with our failing lower aft stay while 1000 miles offshore on our way from Hawaii to Alaska, and then how we replaced it once we arrived to Alaska. In retrospect, I would have carried lengths of dyneema to serve as emergency rigging, but we worked with what ...

“A ship in harbour is safe — but that’s not what ships are built for.” In May 2025, after months of preparation, we left Baja, Mexico, aboard our 33ft sailboat, setting out on our first true offshore passage that took us nearly 3,000 nautical miles to Hawaii. The early days tested us: light winds, ...
