Chapter 3
We again set out in blustery conditions to round Bonavista Head, and then spend a couple of nights at the fine marina in Bonavista Harbour, waiting out some strong winds and enjoying the company of a group of visiting sailors from the US and Canada.
An idyllic sail takes us across Bonavista Bay to Little Harbour, anchoring in the wedge between the two halves of Richard’s Island.
From there it’s just a short hop to anchor in Happy Adventure Upper Bay, taking the dinghy around to the fish plant we come home with fresh cod.
Motoring down Newman Sound in settled conditions, we pass Salton’s Wharf, and anchor near the head of the sound off Terra Nova Park headquarters. It’s a fine stop to take advantage of the parks many trails, do some painting take some pictures and enjoy the solitude of this fabulous wilderness park.
Sailing out of the park and North East up Bonavista Bay we again encounter many humpbacks feeding off Cabot Island, they are accompanied by a huge flock of shearwaters that refuse to move out of our way.
In a driving gale we enter the shelter of Lumsden Harbour and make an overnight stop tied up with the fishing boats.
