ITALY - The Romance Begins - S01E14 Sailing Helios
We are expecting visitors in three weeks so we make our way down the west coast of northern Italy so we can spend time with them in the islands off the coast. To make sure we are not forced into sailing in bad weather just to meet them we set our sights on Portoferraio, Elba Island, as we know this is a well-protected anchorage, and if needed they can get a ferry to meet us there. We stay in a marina for a couple of days to allow us to visit Pisa and Florence.
The more time we spend in Italy the more we love the country and are looking forward to spending most of summer here.

We Didn’t Plan to Stop in Canet – Here’s Why We Had To – Sailing Helios S04E25
We didn’t plan to come back to Canet-en-Roussillon. A few weeks ago the plan was to return west through the Balearic Islands. Then a chance encounter with some fellow Aussies changed everything — and we found ourselves heading back to Canet, the marina where we first laid eyes on Helios in May 2023...

After waiting a day for better weather and getting some rest, we leave at night, sailing to Cap d’Agde — the only window that keeps us clear of strong westerlies around Toulon. Our visitors have gone and it’s time to get going. This is as far east as we sail this season. From here we turn around and start heading west — west all the way to the Caribbean. First, though, we have a date in Canet in mid-August. With a break in the westerlies, we need to make haste and get mov...
Italian coastal adventures: Ponza and Gaeta
We’re back in Ponza after sailing across from Sardinia.
