Ep33 To La Linea
We set off from Barbate on another warm, sunny, calm day along the beautiful coast, it reminds us of the Scottish coast, that we left behind so long ago just with the difference in temperature.
The tide is slack for the first half of the day and then starts to play a trick. It should be with us but around the first headland it is coming back at us at about 1.5 knots. Eventually it switches 180 degrees and is helping us along. With the tide now speeding us along the coast, it isn't long before Tarifa is clearly in sight and then from around the next headland the rock of Gibraltar looms into sight.
This area is full of commercial ships and we are all on watch for them. In the haze looking out to starboard we keep getting a sight of North Africa. We are just before the Parque natural park with a choice of going inside or outside a underwater rock just of the headland, we make the decision to go inside which turns out to be the right decision because Rebecca spots a pod of orcas on the other side of the rocks. we are all very nervous for a little while until we know they aren't after us. We head into La Linea marina for the next day or two and celebrate Rebecca's birthday.
