Jonah, a West Wight Potter 19 continues her return journey stopping at Half Moon Bay (Pillar Point), before setting course for home. This is the third video in a three-part series.

Dawn and the prudent sailor sails on to catch the ebb tide out of the gate, where currents could run fierce against an untimely exit. The fog is clearing now but still no wind. Time for some fishing as we await the northwesterly. The number one channel marker for pillar point. Today we sail all the way in and on to the anchor just in time for dinner. Squadrons of pelicans decorate the dusk sky. The demi loon on the half moon bay no better place for a sailor’s rest.

Before continuing on allow me an indulgence as we take an in-depth look at some buoys. A welcome sight to many a mariner. This green buoy is the pillar point harbor entrance lighted gong buoy number one marking the beginning of the entrance channel at night it shows a flashing green light the light sequence is a single flash every two and a half seconds in addition this buoy possesses a multi-toned gong. A significant advantage to the fog bound seafarer of bygone years. This buoy is the pillar point harbor entrance lighted buoy number two being a lighted buoy it shows a night light the light sequence is a single flash every four seconds. This green buoy is the pillar point harbor entrance lighted bell buoy number three also a lighted buoy it too shows a night light the green light sequence is a single flash every four seconds in addition this buoy possesses a single tone bell this object although not a buoy is still an interesting aid to navigation a beacon tower its name is pillar point harbor entrance light at night it shows a flashing white light the light sequence is a single flash every five seconds.

The pigeon point lighthouse is a lighthouse built in 1871 to guide ships on the pacific coast of california it is the tallest lighthouse on the west coast of the united states
the lighthouse takes its name from the ship carrier pigeon that wrecked here in 1853
hey pigeon point light displays a flashing white light situated 148 feet above sea level this light sequence is a single flash every 10 seconds.
