Welcome to Out Chasing Stars! We're Admiral Amy and Captain David and we're currently exploring the world on s/v Starry Horizons, our Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 catamaran. We started out (nervously!) watching our boat get launched in La Rochelle, France in October of 2014. Since then we've completed an entire world circumnavigation, sailing over 37,000nm, and documented it all here on YouTube. We started making these videos to show our family and friends what life was like on a sailboat, and we're still amazed that other people have also started following along. Our second passage across the Pacific Ocean finally begins! San Francisco Bay gifted us a lovely fog to get started and off we went back out under the Golden Gate Bridge. The first few days at sea were a bit rough as we sailed upwind to avoid some nasty weather to the south of us.
When we were finally able to turn and head towards the trade winds, we found ourselves smack in the middle of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. And sure enough, Julia got hooked on several large pieces of fishing net. Jumping into the middle of the ocean to free the props was one of the most nerve-wracking moments I’ve had on a boat, but fortunately the seas were calm and everything went okay.
