Well Leg 7 has had it all. Of the seven yachts in the fleet only two (Brunel and Dongfeng) are still fully operational and battling it out for the line honours. The rest of the fleet (five yachts) are either retired or damaged.
Going forward one third of the fleet, Scallywag (Who is on the East Coast of Chile) and Vestas (Who is in Port stanley in the Falkland Islands) may not make the April 22 start of Let 8 in Itajai Brazil.
Then AkzoNobel needs hull/keel repairs, Turn The Tide On Plastic needs mast/spreader work anf MAPFRE needs sail replacement and mast repairs.
So all that needs to be done before the Leg 8 start to Newport Rhode Island.
The race is decimated as the Southern Pacific Ocean has hammered the yachts in the fleet.
