Transat Jacques Vabre is finishing in Martinique and as Edmund De Rothschild arrives we have the Daily Report for November 24.21
The most anticipated Class in this year’s TJV is the IMOCA 60’s and Linkedout is the current leader.
Here we have a run down of their performances in the past few days.
This week a shallow depression centred due west of Gibraltar has effectively shut down the famous trades, which typically provide 20+ knot winds at this time of year in the Canary Islands, making it world renowned as a water sports mecca. With a light-to-no wind forecast for the penultimate day of the 44Cup Calero Marinas Lanzarote, the weather gods did tentatively oblige and after more than an hour’s wait ashore, a race did get going but was abandoned when the wind dropped away.
The 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships concluded with double Dutch gold as Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken took the 49er win and Odile van Aanholt and Elise de Ruyter claimed the 49erFX world title. The first time any nation has ever won both the 49er and 49erFX titles simultaneously.
RECAP DAY 1:
MEET THE BECKETTS
With the forecast of stronger trade winds re-establishing in the Canary Islands for the rest of the week, there’s a higher level of confidence that sailing will actually go ahead. Thomas Beckett, a Copenhagen lawyer in his late-forties, is here with his son, Emil, and two of his nephews, Asger and Johan.
The Noakesailing team of Sean Langman, Ed Powys and Josh Porebski had to battle hard against some strong challenges before taking out Race i of the 2021-22 NSW 18ftf Skiff Championship on a bleak Sydney Harbour today.
In an 18knot SSE wind and very little visibility, Langman and his team were always near the lead but had to withstand a second half of the race challenge by the current Tech2 team before going on to her victory.
When Tech2 capsized after breaking a spreader, Noakesailing went on to score a great 1m55s victory from a consistent Yandoo (John Winning, Mike Kennedy and Fang Warren), with Smeg (Micah Lane, Mark Kennedy and Mike McKensey) another 33s further back in third place.
