François Gabart took second place in the Ultim class on the 12th Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe, when he brought his SVR Lazartigue through the Pointe-à-Pitre finish line, this Wednesday afternoon. He finished in an elapsed time of 6 days, 23 hours, 3 minutes and 15 seconds, 3 hours 15 minutes and 50 seconds, after class winner Charles Caudrelier (Maxi Edmond de Rothschild).

And from a pure aero perspective it’s possibly the neatest we’ve seen to date, with the hydraulic system well shielded through a cleverly cut bottom panel, and a very flat lower section housing the leach-tensioner.

The Golden Globe Race Cape Town Gate, 5th Arrival, was Abhilash Tomy, the 43 year old sailor from India. In the last edition of the race, Tomy was rescued after 83 days at sea, following a complex international effort. He doesn’t seem happy.
