A gentle start was delivered to those competing in the 2024 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race. Fifty-one yachts assembled on the start line before the yachts crawled across Sydney Harbour and north up the Tasman Sea. 
It’s the calm before the storm, as yachts are preparing to encounter a strong west south-westerly breeze starting in the early morning of Sunday 29 July. The anticipated conditions will make it a close race amongst the top competitors, with strong breezes building 24 hours in that might allow the mid-size competitors to catch up to the mini-maxis.

With the New Zealand designed Americas Cup foiling boats, the crew is not necessarily sailors but experts in other specific sports. Cyclists, Windsurfers, all make up the small crew numbers on these boats. Sailors represent a small proportion of those onbord. From windsurfing to the America's Cup, cyclor Mattia Camboni has never stopped seeking the next best performance at sea for his team. Here he tells his story.

This From the Rail Report, of the Noakes Sydney to Gold Coast Race is from onboard the Sydney 38, Clockwork, in fresh conditions North of Port Macquarie on day 2 of the Noakes 2024 Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race.

Day two of the 2024 Fuerteventura PWA World Cup saw the men’s Freestyle single elimination completed in anywhere from 20 to 30 knots of wind as the breeze fluctuated depending on the clouds. Overall the conditions were probably easier than yesterday with slightly flatter conditions in the morning before a little swell started to provide a few stunt ramps on the inside during the afternoon. After another full day of freestyle, Adrien Bosson, heads up the event rankings after claiming a slender victory against Lennart Neubauer, in the winners’ final.

Anthony Johnston’s Maxi 72 URM Group claimed Line Honours of the 2024 Noakes Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race, at 20 14 hours, finishing with an elapsed time of 1 day, 7 hours, 14 minutes, and 56 seconds. 
 Skippered by Marcus Ashley-Jones, URM Group, added to its trophy case with this Line Honour victory, racing as the defending Overall Winner from the 2023 Noakes, Sydney Gold Coast. 
 The mini-maxi finished in a twelve knot westerly off the Gold Coast’s Main Beach, in a dark and moonless night. 
Of the challenge of this year's running, Marcus Ashley-Jones shares, "It was a really busy race. Last year, we had one sail change and this year close to 68 sail changes. We navigated further offshore, knowing we were always going to run out of breeze." 
"Whisper made a lunge on the inside, sailing close, but ultimately their breeze ran out. We trusted the offshore breeze to keep us going."
 
Two yachts have retired from the race, Intiy (damaged mainsail) and She’s the Culprit (dismasted), taking the total to three retirements. All crew are safe and headed to shore. Forty-six yachts are still at sea heading towards the finish line.
