Sailing Highlights World on Water Sept 27.24. Luna Rossa, American Magic, INEOS, Swans Bosphorus Cup

In the Semi-finals, Luna Rossa, defeated American Magic with a 5 to 3 score. The team will confront Ineos Britannia, in the final elimination phase of the Louis Vuitton Cup.
Here is their semi finals racing wrap video.
This is your weekly Global Sailing Highlights show, the World on Water, for September 27, 2024.

The Race Committee prudently delayed the start to 2 30 p m, keeping the fleet on the docks as they waited for a storm front with potentially gusty winds to pass on Day 1 of the 22nd Rolex Swan Cup. Forging ahead were the ClubSwan 36, Black Seal, with a first and a second place, the 42, Canopo, with two bullets, the 45, Ulika, with a second and a first, closely followed by Ex Officio, just one point behind, with a first and a third. In the Club Swan 50 fleet, Olymp, with 3-time Olympic gold medallist Jochen Schuemann on tactics, was a clear winner.

The Volvo Ocean 70 Aiolos set a fearsome pace on day one of the Bosphorus Cup 2024 to score line honours in the opening races. Greek businessman George Procopiou was helming his ocean-going 70-footer to great effect, aided by an international crew that includes Greece’s most recent Olympic medallists, Pavlos Kagialis, and Panagiotis Mantis.
Early off the start line, another mighty Greek boat, Stratis Andreatis’ 86-footer, Meliti, made an excellent start out of the committee boat end of the line to move into clear air ahead of the rest of the 96-boat pack.

The Sandberg Estates J 70 Worlds, has a winner. After five intense days of competition in the Bay of Palma, the American, “Yonder”, of Douglas Newhouse and Jeremy Wilmot, was proclaimed world champion of the class in an event organised by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, and the International Association of the J 70 class.

Day two of the Rolex Swan Cup on the waters off Porto Cervo was marked by unstable weather conditions, managed skilfully by the Race Committee to fit in a coastal race for all classes, with the exception of the ClubSwan 36 class which completed a windward-leeward race, abandoning a second due to a squall that brought with it unpredictable and shifting winds. The coastal race was slightly shortened for Swan Divisions A and C and the One Design Classes for the same reason, while the course was reduced more significantly for Division B, the Swan Sparkman and Stephens yachts.

Orient Express 6, may not be the biggest boat at the regatta but today she was the fastest. Yildirim Kaynaz’s Farr 55, sailed a tactically strong Day 2 of the Bosphorus Race, the showpiece race on the middle day of the Bosphorus Cup in Istanbul.
The forecast was for moderate breeze, but after a wait for the wind to arrive, Principal Race Officer, Nino Shmueli, sent the 95-boat fleet on its way, launching out of a fast downwind start, towards the southern end of the Bosphorus Strait.
Catalin Trandafir’s, Soto 40, Essentia, was fastest out of the start, speeding close to the Asian shore, and beating a lot of the bigger boats to the bottom of the course, near the Dolmabahce Palace.

Max Maeder from Singapore, the Paris 2024 bronze medalist, reclaimed his title from 2022 with a dominant performance, winning 8 out of 12 races. Maeder’s consistent excellence set a high standard for the competition. Reflecting on his competitors, Maeder praised the Chinese sailors for their fearlessness and skill, noting their potential to become a formidable force in international competitions.

The third day of racing at the 22nd Rolex Swan Cup brought a northeasterly wind of 7 to 10 knots, allowing the competition to start on schedule at 12 noon, and all planned races to be completed.
The Swan One Design classes had a dedicated windward leeward race course, which hosted the debut of the new Club Swan 28 class boats. The remaining classes, competing in compensated time, sailed on coastal courses, 21 miles for the Division A Swan Maxi, and 18 miles for all other divisions.

There was a close tussle on the final day of the Bosphorus Cup 2024, but in the breezy finale it was the TP52, Arkas Sailing Team, Blue Moon, who surged to victory in Istanbul.
With a variety of wind strengths and different course configurations, the 23rd edition of the Bosphorus Cup, demanded solid all-round skills, and Serhat Altay’s, well-drilled crew, looked ready for any challenge.
Having only just taken over ownership of TP52, less than five months ago, Altay and his team, have been getting used to the power of the 52-footer, which formerly competed on the TP52 Super Series as the German boat Container.

In the Semi-finals, Luna Rossa, defeated American Magic with a 5 to 3 score. The team will confront Ineos Britannia, in the final elimination phase of the Louis Vuitton Cup.
