New York Vendée Transat Pre-Race Start

Just a day to go before the start of the New York Vendée Transat! Skippers Yoann, Sam, Boris, and Clarissa are preparing for this ultimate non-stop transatlantic race. After their exhibition race at the foot of the Statue of Liberty, they will leave New York on May 29th. The first New York Vendée Transat in 2016 was won by Jeremie Beyou. This second edition, organized by the Vendée Globe teams, is shaping up to be a major sporting event. It is also the last qualifying race for the Vendée Globe and will have major implications for each skipper’s miles sailed in the race. For every mile sailed, they clock up 1.5 points at the end of this race. Skippers Ready to Depart The 29 skippers competing in this final rehearsal for the Vendée Globe are excited and motivated. They will face some unique challenges as they depart from New York. With only one day to go before their departure, tensions are high among the skippers. They are ready to leave New York for Lay SAB in this non-stop transatlantic race. It’s a journey of anticipation, excitement, and competition among the top contenders. The Race and What It Means This transatlantic race from New York allows participants to strengthen its international aspects. The event helps the Vendée region raise its profile on an international level, enabling businesses to forge connections with the New York economic landscape. Skippers Depart for Start Line Area The boats are leaving the marina and heading towards the start line area, about 10 miles away from New York. They will begin their journey slowly to conserve energy and time. It is unusual for these skippers to be on raceboats that require a slow approach at first. The calm waters near New York offer an easy way for the racers to get started as they prepare mentally and physically for the big race ahead. Yoann’s Thoughts on Departure Day “It’s going to be light tomorrow at the starting line. I want to get there early, and it’s going to stay light for two days. We’ll have a slow start followed by some more heat.” [Yoann] According to Yoann, there will be low-pressure systems off the coast that could create nice wind conditions and propel the boats towards the north of the Atlantic Ocean. Their journey’s success depends on their positioning in relation to weather patterns. While sailing through the race course, skippers must avoid high-collision zones where whales gather, like one near the US coast. These areas are well-marked to help racers safely navigate around them. Clarissa’s Thoughts on the Race “I’m very excited to finally leave after spending three weeks in New York. I can’t wait to be back out on the water and get into a good fight for returning to France.” [Clarissa] Clarissa believes that this race will be quite different from last year’s event, which was quick and physically intense with volatile weather conditions. This time around, the race focuses on strategy and tactics, rather than physical prowess. The upcoming weeks offer both challenges and excitement for Clarissa and her fellow skippers as they prepare to complete one of sailing’s most prestigious events. Boris Talks Preparing for the Race “With 10 miles to go, the team has left. We are a little emotional now and we try not to get much faster.” [Boris] Skippers like Boris feel the pressure as they navigate their way through the final pre-race days before departing from New York. Despite some initial nerves, Boris shares that he’s confident in his preparation and excited to begin this exciting transatlantic race. As they continue to make final preparations for departure day, these skippers are ready to compete against one another while pushing their limits in the world of professional sailing. Sam’s Final Thoughts Before Departure “It feels a bit like we’re on a cruise at the moment, with the beautiful blue sky and clouds overhead.” [Sam] Skippers like Sam appreciate the serene atmosphere in New York Harbor as they make their final preparations. The city’s picturesque backdrop adds an extra layer of beauty and anticipation for what is sure to be an unforgettable experience. As they head out from New York, these skippers will no doubt remember the sights and sounds of this special moment that marked the beginning of one of sailing’s most anticipated races. The Final Moments Before Departure With just a day remaining before the start of the New York Vendée Transat, excitement is in the air. The skippers have made their final preparations and are eagerly awaiting the official starting gun that will launch them into one of sailing’s most challenging races.
