The list of 40 Skippers officially registered for the 2024 Vendee Globe race includes an international field of solo sailors.
Here is a snapshot of the competitors and their boats:
…and many more, including sailors from the USA and New Zealand like Conrad Coleman on board Maître V.
Sailors had to start two solo races and finish at least one between 2022 and 2024, in a time not exceeding that of the winner increased by 50%. Among the 44 projects, 42 Skippers managed to qualify.
The Vendee Globe aims to promote innovation. From the 13 new boats selected systematically, the other projects were decided by the number of miles traveled in races since the Transat Jacques Vabre 2021.
It remained to choose between three projects to award the 40th place. The invitation was awarded by the organization to Oliver Heer, who had traveled the furthest miles among these three projects.
The selection process was not easy for Alan Ladmiral, President of the Department of Voile and the Vendee Globe. After consulting various people, including the president of the Ocean Race class and his race director, he decided to select the participants in order of classification by miles and to respect the law of sport.
