I’m Alex. I’m not pretty or an accomplished sailor. I don’t have a pension or a deep bank account to rely on. I departed alone one cold February day from the south of France to Barcelona. And continued along the Spanish coast to Tangiers Morocco. I went on to the Canary Islands. I sailed around the entire archipelago and got extensive training in how to manage my boat in extreme conditions. There I met cool and caliente people and also learned that I can stay young and enjoy life. I continued south to the Cape Verde Islands. I met some of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen of my travels. And got stuck there because of the pandemic. It was one of the best times of my life. I sailed to eight of the ten Cape Verde islands and discovered an amazing tiny African nation.
I learned to speak the local Creole language. So as I could better understand the Cape Verdean culture and lifestyle. And to enjoy life and love again. I recovered from hip replacement surgery so that I could get back in the saddle. And sailed on to the great African continent where few sailors dare go.
This is my story. One of an geezer living the life of a full time sailor with all it’s perils and pleasures. It’s our Winded Voyage. A real living adventure series. Welcome aboard.

An older dude who feels 30 sails the world on a small yacht and tells his live large adventures. Follow him from the beginning when he looks for a sailboat and buys it. Earns his Swiss offshore sailing license and refits his boat. Then sails alone from the south of France along the Spanish coast to Tangiers Morocco. On to the Canary Islands where he learned how to manage in extreme ocean conditions. Continues south to the Cabo Verde Islands, land of the most beautiful people ever. He learns to speak the local Creole language so to better understand the Cape Verdean culture. To enjoy life, feel young and love again.
