The Sao Vicente Canal, most of the time it’s a rough patch of ocean to navigate. Which is the case in this episode. It was at times harrowing, with winds sustained at 33kts. It was an uphill battle against wind, current and waves. I took on water and my friend Peter tore his sail and lost his anchor. We were two boats to take on the Sao Vicente canal on our way to the island of Sao Nicolau. Peter with his crew, Lily, Aleck and Jen and me solo sailing. I thought I was accustomed to the conditions here, but once again not this time. I dont think I will ever be accustomed to extreme Cape Verde sailing. This is also no bullsh*t sailing! An older dude who feels 30 sails the world on a small yacht and tells his live large adventures. Follow him from the beginning when he looks for a sailboat and buys it. Earns his Swiss offshore sailing license and refits his boat. Then sails alone from the south of France along the Spanish coast to Tangiers Morocco. On to the Canary Islands where he learned how to manage in extreme ocean conditions. Continues south to the Cabo Verde Islands, land of the most beautiful people ever. He learns to speak the local Creole language so to better understand the Cape Verdean culture. To enjoy life, feel young and love again. He recovers from hip replacement surgery and sails on to the great African continent where few sailors dare to go. His story is one of an old geezer living the life of a full time sailor with all it’s perils and pleasures. So hang on, eat, dance, laugh, love and discover the world with him and his boat Galopin. It’s their Winded Voyage. A real living adventure series.
