Caught In A Vicious Midnight Lightning Storm | My Atlantic Crossing Part 2 | Season 6 | Episode 31

I’m a little more than halfway to French Guyana, and entering a different weather zone. I’m in the tropics. It’s blistering hot and clouds are forming all around me and the 40ft. boat I’m delivering. As well I’m in the Saragassum sea. There’s floating algae everywhere. And some of it gets stuck in the propeller and the engine is acting up. So I dig deep in the boat in search of a Spinnaker. I find it and hoist it. It’s glorious sailing. Until one night a vicious lightning storm. I can’t bring down the spinnaker and all hell breaks loose. I was able to let all the lines go, except one of he Spinnaker sheets gets knotted and the boat is laying on its side, and the Spinnaker about to tear to pieces. Luckily the storm passes and everything calms down. But I did break the Spinnaker pole. So the journey continues.
