HISTORICAL
The Schooner Summer Wind was launched as the Queen Tyi in 1929 from the yard of C.A. Morse (now Lyman-Morse) of Thomaston, Maine. Designed by the John G. Alden Company of Boston, Massachusetts (design no. 412) considered by many to be one of the top design firms of this type of craft. She was built for Arthur Crisp, a Wall Street banker who lost the vessel in the Market Crash of 1929.
Renamed Sea Gypsy, she became a well known schooner yacht during the 1930s, racing and cruising the waters of New England.
During WWII, the War Department assigned the vessel to the U.S. Navy’s Coastal Picket Patrol, a fleet of private yachts charged with patrolling the U.S. coastlines. For a history of classic sailing yachts that served, visit…

Following WWII Sea Gypsy had several private owners, several refits, and served mostly as a charter vessel in the Mediterranean.
RECENT
In 2006, after a long period of deterioration, a new owner commissioned a major restoration and Summerwind returned to the classic yacht racing circuit.
Most recently, she became a sail training vessel, first donated to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and then to the U.S. Naval Academy Sailing Foundation.
Summerwind will once again be available for sale in the Fall of 2019. For information, visit…
