A video by Lin & Larry Pardey | Running time: 90 minutes
“Get Ready to Cruise” is Part 1 of the Pardey “Off-Shore Sailing” video series. Part 2 is “Get Ready to Cross Oceans”. A third video, “Storm Tactics: Cape Horn Tested”is also available along with a companion handbook.

In 2010, the Cruising Club of America awarded Lin and Larry the prestigious “Far Horizons” Award for their lifetime contribution to cruising. This video a distillation of tips and techniques developed over forty years of cruising and two circumnavigations.

On board Taleisin, the boat that has been their home for over 65,000 miles of voyaging, Lin and Larry discuss on deck and below deck setups for successful long range cruising.

On deck, Larry and Lin demonstrate how sail and ground-tackle handling can be made easier for even the smallest crew member. Larry discusses sun protection, rain collection, and line handling.

Below deck, the Pardey’s demonstrate galley upgrades, table design ideas, comfortable seating arrangements, and ways to improve ventilation. Lin provides advice on buying and storing provisions and hints for keeping you and your crew dry, warm, clean, and well rested.

Shot in The Pittwater (north of Sydney, Australia) and at Fremantle, as well as at their home base in New Zealand (where they are restoring a 110-year-old racing yacht), this production incorporates the best ideas from their highly praised books, including Cruising with Lin and Larry Pardey and The Care and Feeding of Sailing Crew.

The video have been re-edited, re-mastered, and supplemented with new information from these master voyagers, who now have more than 180,000 miles under their belts – including a contrary-to-the-wind circumnavigation below the four great southern capes. Come along and share in some of the secrets that, even after forty years afloat, make the Pardeys eager to keep cruising,”…as long as it’s fun.”
