Derecktor Shipyards has been a prominent name in the sailing industry since its founding in 1947 by Bob Derecktor. Starting with wooden sailboats and later transitioning to composite and aluminum constructed boats, Derecktor has built a reputation for excellence through projects like their well-known 12-meter Stars and Stripes boats.
Derecktor Shipyard in Fort Pierce
The company has expanded its operations to include a state-of-the-art facility in Fort Pierce, Florida. This yard is notable for being able to haul some of the largest boats globally using their massive 1500 US short-ton capable mobile boat hoist – the largest in the Western Hemisphere.
Perfect Location
Derecktor chose Fort Pierce due to its prime location near the Atlantic Ocean. Just three nautical miles from the wide and deep, easily navigable Fort Pierce inlet, it allows large-draft and tall air-draft boats easy access into the facility. There’s also ample space for maneuvering within a generous turning basin adjacent to the yard.
World-Class Machinery
The heart of Derecktor’s Fort Pierce facility is their colossal hauling machine, equipped to handle boats up to 250ft in length depending on displacement. It boasts a unique design with an extended ‘bump out’ area featuring the Derecktor name and American flag – facilitating more positioning for various vessel types. Moreover, adjustable trolleys allow customization of strap plans for nearly any boat shape, making it ideal for mega or super sail yachts.
Efficient Service
In the case of one client, Derecktor saved an impressive four days worth of prep work, resulting in a remarkably short yard period. While repairs were made to a thruster and other items, the team’s efficiency also facilitated early departure. This exemplifies their dedication to both speed and maintaining yacht-quality standards during service.
Growing Ecosystem
To further enhance its offerings, Derecktor is in the process of paving an adjacent area, which will significantly increase hard-standing capacity for additional boats. This growth not only attracts more subcontractors but also stimulates local economic investment.
Future Plans
The yard’s expansion includes the development of dockage off its piers to accommodate more vessels, whether in preparation for hauling or final touches before departure. Additionally, further hauling systems are on the horizon, aimed at handling even larger boats.
A Boater’s Paradise
Fort Pierce is not only a strategic location but also offers an inviting atmosphere with its laid-back vibe and stunning natural beauty. From surfing to fishing, nightlife, and even local events like the downtown revitalization, boaters can find an array of activities.
Derecktor’s Commitment
Derecktor is dedicated to providing exceptional services, ensuring that every yacht receives the highest quality care from both their team and trusted subcontractors. They invite all potential clients to explore the possibility of bringing their projects to Derecktor Fort Pierce.
Unbeatable Location, Expert Services
For mega sailing yachts looking for top-tier service in a prime location with access to world-class facilities and expertise, Derecktor Shipyards Fort Pierce is the answer. By combining advanced machinery with an attentive, client-focused approach, they’re making waves as the go-to destination for boat maintenance and care.
