Modern production catamarans have been getting bigger and taller, and with extraordinary levels of accommodation. While having all the conveniences of home is awesome, with some newer builds comfort has come at the cost of performance and seakindliness. The question becomes: “how much is enough?”
The Maine Cat 41 is not a “dated” design as they are still in production, but it is a design that pursues different goals: namely functionality and performance. This is not a minimalist boat or one for those on a small budget as at 14 years old her value is somewhere in the high $300s, but it is a boat that strips away many ideas of what a cruising catamaran should be.
