Dinghy Maintenance: Discover How to Locate Leaks and Upgrade Your Boat

Hello there! Welcome back to another exciting episode of our sailing vlog. We’re diving into the nitty-gritty of dinghy maintenance with a particular focus on leak identification, repair techniques, and even a little talk about upgrading your dingy if need be. We know it might not sound glamorous, but trust us – maintaining your boat’s essential companion like a well-functioning dingy can be crucial in enhancing both the fun and practical aspects of sailing.

Discover How to Find Leaks in Your Dinghy

A common problem many boat owners face is finding leaks in their dingy. And guess what? Our very own Cadence the dingy had some! So, how do you go about identifying and locating these pesky leaks? It’s all about utilizing the right tools and techniques effectively. We embarked on this mini mission with our trusty mixture of Dawn dish soap and water. As [Name] demonstrated, spraying this mixture around your dingy can help reveal hidden leaks, creating visible bubbles wherever there might be an issue.

Our hunt for Cadence’s leaks led us to discover not one but three leaks, specifically in the tubes! One particular gash was particularly apparent and was traced back to where the davits were located. Another tube displayed evidence of a leak we had spotted while swimming by our boat. Interesting to note is that despite hearing the telltale sound of water seeping through, pinpointing the exact location proved challenging initially but perseverance paid off.

Our Dingy, Cadence: A Tale of Love and Upgrades

Cadence, named after our youngest, is an old fiberglass dingy with three tubes – one at the bow, another at midships, and a final one at the stern. Despite being used and showing signs of wear, she has been faithful to us. Now, we’re all about patches for these leaks so she remains in top form.

Discussing our experiences with our dingy has brought up questions like

Do we still like our Achilles dinghy? How do you find a leak in the dinghy Hypalon? Let's talk about the dink.
