This week we sail into the vast Amazon Delta, one of the most powerful and mysterious river systems on earth. It’s a place of extraordinary beauty, rich culture and warm people, but also a region forever linked to a tragic moment in sailing history.
In this episode we reflect on the legacy of Sir Peter Blake, the world famous New Zealander who was killed near the mouth of the Amazon in 2001. His story has shaped how many cruisers think about this part of Brazil, and it’s impossible not to feel his presence as we navigate these same waters.
But the Amazon Delta is far more than its darkest chapter. We share the reality of sailing here today, the remote communities, the wildlife and the challenges of navigating fishing boats and strong river currents, and the vibrant energy of Belém.
