In this episode we sail to the legendary Salvation islands (Iles du Salut) off the coast of French Guiana, a hauntingly beautiful archipelago with a dark history.
Devil’s Island was France’s brutal offshore penal colony, For a hundred years, between 1853 and 1853, it was one of the most feared places on earth, where prisoners were shipped to join the colony of the damned. The harsh tropical conditions led to a terrifying mortality rate, where 75% of inmates died. Today, the abandoned, crumbling buildings are returning to nature, a silent reminder of their savage past.
