SEA TURTLES CAUGHT IN GHOST NET #indianocean #sailing #shorts #nature #ocean

On a serene sailing trip across the tranquil blue expanses of the Indian Ocean, The Cruising Kiwis encounter an unexpected and poignant scenario. In their recent short video, they document the heart-wrenching rescue of two sea turtles ensnared in a ghost net.

A Twist in Their Voyage

As they traverse through the majestic and unspoiled waters of their sailing route, the unexpected unfolds – a couple of sea turtles, likely navigating the ocean currents as part of their journey, have inadvertently gotten caught in a ghost net. This scenario isn’t new to the world but encountering it so intimately during their voyage is a moment that would leave any observer, including The Cruising Kiwis, touched and inspired.

Rescuing Marine Life in Distress

Determined to make a difference, the duo initiates an impromptu rescue mission. The delicate operation involves careful maneuvers to approach the sea turtles without further endangering them or disturbing their environment more than necessary. Their primary concern is the immediate welfare of the trapped marine life.

The Impact on Sea Turtles

Upon closer observation, it’s evident that the sea turtles have been struggling with the ghost net for an extended period. The weight and entanglement are taking a toll, with visible marks on their shells that reflect the long duration of their captivity.

A Collaborative Effort

Understanding the potential danger of a hasty attempt, they proceed with caution and a deep respect for these majestic creatures. Each movement is calculated to avoid startling or causing more harm than needed. This rescue reflects not only their immediate goal but also emphasizes the broader need for actions against marine debris.

Free at Last

The culmination of the rescue effort sees both sea turtles freed from their plight. A sigh of relief is evident as they gently paddle away, now free to continue their journey in the vast ocean, thanks to The Cruising Kiwis’ spontaneous and humane intervention.

Nature’s Beauty and Sorrow

This short video captures the dual nature of the ocean – its beauty and sorrow. It brings to light issues like ghost nets, a perilous bycatch for marine creatures, and reminds us that every creature, regardless of its size or habitat, plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance.

A Call to Action

While the immediate plight of these two sea turtles has been resolved through The Cruising Kiwis‘ rescue, the broader issue persists. This video is a gentle reminder that individual efforts can make a significant difference. It invites viewers to reflect on their role in protecting our oceans and marine life against unseen perils like ghost nets.

SEA TURTLES CAUGHT IN GHOST NET #indianocean #sailing #shorts #nature #ocean

Sailing across the Indian Ocean our sailing family came across two Hawksbill sea turtles trapped in ghost netting, floating in the ocean, close to death. We set to work removing the fishing net that had entangled them, cutting into their skin and their shells. We were just in the right place at the right time to free these beautiful creatures and give them back their freedom.
