OFF GRID SAILING THE REMOTE SKELETON COAST – And then it rained in the driest place on earth!
This week, we sail north along Namibia’s Skeleton Coast, One of the most remote and unforgiving stretches of Africa’s Atlantic coastline. There’s no cell signal, no wifi, and no safety net – just us, the sea, the desert, and a coastline known more for its shipwrecks than shelter.
But nature had a surprise waiting, a rare, once in a decade rainstorm. For 24 hours, it rained non-stop in one of the driest regions on Earth. And we were there, anchored in the middle of it – in the off grid anchorage of Sandwich Bay.
From fog and cold Benguela currents to miracle rainfall in the desert, this leg of our journey proves that Namibia’s Skeleton Coast is full of wild surprises. Come aboard for a truly off-the-map adventure. Complete with broken gear, muddy decks, and the magic of desert rain.
Love remote sailing, rare weather events, and the raw beauty of Africa? Subscribe and come along.
