How Our PRIUS Ran Over The TOW DOLLY

The Adventure Travelers (Mike and Melissa) explain how the Prius ran over the tow dolly.

While being directed by google maps and driving down a Canadian street in our Sunseeker RV, we were stopped because the street had been torn up due to construction. We realized we were trapped because we cannot make a u turn in our RV with the Prius being towed on the back.

We stopped the rig and decided to take the Prius off of the dolly. Instead of using our regular procedure, we tried to remove the dolly without taking the Prius off just to save time.

Unfortunately we forgot to lock the tow dolly back on to the Prius. As Mike started to back off of the tow dolly per our normal procedure, we didn’t realize the dolly was not locked in place so the front of the dolly flew up. We realized our mistake but again instead of just continuing to back down we eased up the car a little which caused the dolly to fall down hard and our Prius moved forward over the entire dolly past the wheel wells and onto the tow dolly bar. Our tires were up off the ground and we were basically grounded up high.

After calming down, Mike decide to jack the car tires up enough to slide the ramps under the front tires so the dolly could back up onto the dolly wheel wells. This process took about an hour. We were able to back up the dolly once the tires were securely on the ramps.

Once in the wheel wells, we had to do the same procedure to back the car down off the dolly however, the dolly would raise up again if we didn’t stop the hitch with a piece of wood laying nearby.

Mike was able to drive the car off the dolly and the crisis was over.
