Since I made a video about my plans to build a 30 feet boat there have been a few comments stating that it is to big.
One comment mentioned Mingming a 24 feet boat and stated that the skipper Roger Taylor was of the opinion that bigger than 24 feet was no. I seams to me that he meant that Roger Taylor was some kind of authority since he writes that he have been sailing his whole life.
But lenght is only one dimension of a boat. Add to this the coefficients like prismatic coeffecient, block coefficient and different shapes and transoms.
The Olympic single scull is 8.2 meter long its weight is 14 kilos. A Swedish double ender Allegro is also 8.2 meter she is at least 3500 kilo at the start of a long voyage. That is 250 times as heavy for the same lenght.
Lengt is OK if we speak of the same kind of boats.
My boats is not the same kind. Therefore I argue that my plans should not be condemed based on a number.

Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
