The rudder axis a 50 mm steel pipe mock up. Results exceeding expectations.
Today I bought a 5o mm steel pipe as a mock up for the rudder axis. For a long time I have beeb uneasy about the results.
It was a relief that it turned out so well.
With the aft end of the boat resting on the rudder axis the draft was only 45 cm or 1foot 6 inches just up to my kneecap.
(I find it curious that so few crusers, except French care about shallow draft as it opens up so many new cruising grounds. )
Also the boat did rest very stable.
She was slooping 2.3°. That is also very good. In fact most beaches sloop towards the sea so in many cases drying out on such a beach will leave the boat very level.
There is more mock up to come.
It is good to be able to work on many different part of the boat if I get stuck in one place I can continue in a different without losing time. The G11 rudder axis may take some time to get here so I like to order soon.

Hi My name is Sven Yrvind. I design, build and cruise small boats. 1962 I left Sweden in 15 feet converted Blekingseka. I soon found out that there was room for improvement. To understand the basic I began to study mathematics and engenering. 1968 I sailed to England via many contries in a converted 13 feet rowing boat. People told me I be more happy on a bigger boat. November that year I found a wreck an old steam launch build 1885 I converted her to a staysail schooner and sailed her to Rio de Janeiro. That voyage advised me that a bigger boat do not bring happiness, happiness is an inside thing. I designed a 6 meter doubble ender built her in my mother basement. Tried to sail around Cape Horn with her but was capsized and pitchpoled. Later I built an 5.9 meter boat in her I rounded Cape Horn in the southern winter June 1980.
