The for and aft bulkheads had hatches with hard lids. It did take to much place.
The new idea is to use canvas, PVC covered polyester textile. Now a friend gave me a piece with a nice blue color, strong and fine. I fix them with shock cord. Several turns, each turn add pressure. This will protect the living area from spray and waves when the deck hatch is opend. Rare are the instances when solid water have entered. I only remenber once, and that occasion I remember well. It was a dark night on the Bay of Biscay 2011 a sudden squall when I opend the deck hatch to lower the toppsail a braking sea dumped a bucket full of water in the dining room to my displeasure.
I will have a pump to evacuate any water.
It would have been better to have the hole in an elleptical shape. I will not go into the trouble to rebuild the boat for that reason but a new boat is in the drawings many years from now after having doubled Cape Horn with this one and gained valuable knowledge.
